Boxnutt

Connected consumer hardware, and what happens to it when the vendor stops answering.

About

What this site is for

Boxnutt documents connected consumer hardware: the devices that stopped working because a server was switched off, the design decisions that made that possible, the open protocols that outlived the products, and what the whole arrangement costs in waste, repair and resale value.

Every figure on the site carries its source in the sentence it appears in. Where a device is named, the price, the dates and the owner at the time are named with it.

Nineteen pieces are grouped into six sections. The archive lists all of them.
